  • The Lure of the Garden

    We had the pleasure of welcoming back a group of seniors from Sage Crossing to the garden again Friday. These folks, who have some level of memory loss, were enthusiastic about doing some hands-on gardening again. They had planted a row of zucchini last March, and on Friday they scored a big harvest from those plants! These were blue-ribbon quality zucchini! They filled a small cart with the produce, delivered to the row by our favorite two-year-old apprentice gardener, Sadie.     Accessible Garden Boxes Under Construction!

    Construction of two accessible garden boxes we have been looking forward to introducing to our garden is well underway! Dhruv Manchikalapati of BSA Troop 320 in Fuquay Varina is leading this project for his Eagle Project. Ron Nobles, a retired Industrial Arts teacher, is offering expert guidance (and tools) to implement a complex design from a California state agency.     Today’s garden workday is cancelled due to much needed rain! Please join us Tuesday evening 5-7pm for planting, harvesting, weeding and watering. We have lots of springs crops to harvest and many summer crops to plant including annual flowers for our cutting garden. Hope to see you soon, Anne

Volunteer opportunities

In addition to our garden work on scheduled garden workdays, including soil prep, planting, watering, weeding etc., there are other important supporting tasks that make the garden go. See some examples below. If you would like to sign up to help with any of these on particular dates, please go to our sign-up sheet by clicking the button below. Many hands make light work!
