We had the pleasure of welcoming back a group of seniors from Sage Crossing to the garden again Friday. These folks, who have some level of memory loss, were enthusiastic about doing some hands-on gardening again. They had planted a row of zucchini last March, and on Friday they scored a big harvest from those plants! These were blue-ribbon quality zucchini! They filled a small cart with the produce, delivered to the row by our favorite two-year-old apprentice gardener, Sadie. And “JJ” even found a zucchini shaped just like his monogram in the shape of a “J!”
After that, they turned to the raspberries, collecting a respectable quantity of those, as well. All 25 pounds of produce harvested went to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard.
The morning closed with a demonstration and practice of pea shelling, followed by a nice lunch together in the shade (it was getting hot!).
