Tomorrow is our last opportunity to plant cover crops this year! We really need your help to get these seeds in the ground before it’s too cold!
Maybe you’re wondering why and what we’re planting this time of year. The two crops you see above are cover crops – crimson clover on the left and austrian winter pea on the right. There are many reasons to plant cover crop:
- weed suppression
- attract beneficial insects
- erosion control
- capturing nitrogen from the air and fixing it in the soil
- adding organic matter to the soil
- deep roots break up compacted soil and improve water filtration
We have at least 8 rows we’d like to plant, but our temperature window for germination is almost over. If you can come for any or all of tomorrow’s workday, that would be a huge help.
Hope to see you tomorrow!
