Check out our new, completely-refreshed page about our beautiful pollinator plants and the beneficial insects they attract! Thanks to Penny and Anne for bringing us a fresh, new view of this important part of our sustainable and beautiful Simple Gifts Community Garden.

We’ll gather this coming Tuesday, December 31st at 10:30am at the garden to harvest collards and other crops for New Year’s luck! In case you’re not from the south (or haven’t lived here long), the traditional meal for New Year’s is black-eyed peas, collards (or other greens), pork and cornbread. I’m sure there are lots of stories about why this is, but most revolve around good luck and prosperity in the new year. We hope…

Our fall crops are doing so well that we’ll need to harvest again next week. We have kale, lettuce, bok choi, Swiss chard, carrots, turnips, broccoli and others to harvest including collards now that we’ve had some hard frosts. If you can join us this coming Monday, December 9th at 10:30am, we’ll do a quick harvest and mulch the strawberries a bit more. Usually we have work days on Saturdays, but this time of year…
In addition to our garden work on scheduled garden workdays, including soil prep, planting, watering, weeding etc., there are other important supporting tasks that make the garden go. See some examples below. If you would like to sign up to help with any of these on particular dates, please go to our sign-up sheet by clicking the button below. Many hands make light work!
