Our First Bench from Plastic Film Recycling

Congratulations, gardeners! After just a few months of collecting discarded plastic film in the special recycle box at the garden, we reached the 1,000 pound threshold to receive a brand new bench from Trex. Who would ever have thought that those flimsy bags and wrappers would add up to 1,000 pounds so quickly! And keeping all of that out of our landfills and watersheds is a huge help to our natural environment – let’s keep doing it!

This plastic film recycling program is offered under a program from Trex called NexTrex. These are the same folks that manufacture the composite boards used in most modern decking and other structures (like benches!). Many thanks to Anne for bringing this opportunity to the garden. Don’t forget to bring your plastic bags and film each time you come to the garden and deposit them in the special recycle box. Thanks!

Congratulations Anne and the gardeners for this great incentive to recycle. The new Trex bench is beautiful! I will continue to contribute and look forward to another bench in the future.

I was in my Sunday School class yesterday and told the group that a bench had already been earned in 6 months time. They are great supporters of the recycling and can’t wait to help donate and get a second bench, or whatever you are saving for next. Gloria Rowe
