We harvested over 280 pounds of potatoes from 3 of our 4 row this morning! We got some beautiful dark red Norlands, Yukon golds and Pontiacs. We still have one row of German butterballs that we’ll be harvesting soon. We also harvested 4 rows of garlic, lettuce, swiss chard, strawberries, raspberries, onions and peas. It was a highly successful day and the beautiful weather was enjoyed by all.
A lot of potatoes went to The Point Care Pantry in Cary today, but there are still lots in the shed for Tuesday gardeners and the Holly Springs Food Cupboard. The garlic is drying in the shade under a tarp in hopes that we can braid the tops on Tuesday night. It will then go to Anne’s to hang under the shelter out of the sun and rain, but with good ventilation to dry. Gardeners on Tuesday can take home some garlic to use right away, but the drying/curing process at Anne’s will take a few weeks and will allow the garlic to have it’s usual long shelf life.
Enjoy some pictures of this glorius day!
