    Today was the first of several YMCA of the Triangle Summer Camp visits to Simple Gifts Community Garden planned this year. Todays visiting camp was “CILT Camp” (Campers in Leadership Training), comprised of teens in rising 9th – 10th grade who are looking for opportunities to serve and lead.     Garlic and Friends

    Our first Thursday morning was popular, with 10-12 people coming to work the land. The fine art of garlic braiding was shared with several new members who joined today. The harvest yielded 59 pounds of cabbage, peppers, strawberries, raspberries, squash, onions, kale, beets, and Swiss chard, which all went for the first time to the great folks at the White Oak Foundation. In addition to our garden work on scheduled garden workdays, including soil prep, planting, watering, weeding etc., there are other important supporting tasks that make the garden go.
