Garden collard harvest – Wed., Dec. 31st at 10am!

Happy winter days to you all!

This coming Wednesday, December 31st we will gather at the garden at 10am to harvest collards and other overwintering crops for ourselves and the food bank. Collards are part of many southerners’ New Year’s traditional meal, symbolizing good fortune in the coming year. It will be chilly, but bundle up and come join us for a little winter harvest and fellowship.

We’ve had a record setting year in 2025, donating over 4,840 pounds of fresh, organic produce to three local food banks in addition to the produce each of us took home. As you can see in the chart above, that’s a new record! None of this could have happened without help from everyone. If you ever had any doubt that all of this is a huge team effort, 2025 surely proved that it is. Life is unpredictable and if I ever questioned that I have learned better. When I suddenly found myself in the hospital with serious injuries after an auto accident in March, all of you stepped up to fill in any gaps that I might have left. I am proud of our teamwork, humbled and thankful to work with each of you to help our community and grateful to call you my friends. I hope to see you all Wednesday!

    Ms. Anne,

Sorry to hear of your auto accident, but am relieved you survived it! Where is the Simple gifts community garden located?

    Sincerely,
    Andrea Hayes
