Big Harvest Before the Freeze

Well maybe not THAT big, but still a lot to do before 9:30 AM, with a freeze warning for Monday night. Come early if you can. The priority will be to harvest all remaining tomatoes, peppers, and okra, after which we will pull the plants to prepare for winter. We are still getting a nice harvest of other fall crops, too, including brussel sprouts, turnips, broccoli, kale, mustard greens, bok choi, beets, arugula, Swiss chard, carrots, cabbage, and butternut squash. And don’t forget the raspberries, which are still producing prodigious quantities of delicious berries!

Our work is even more important now that SNAP benefits are held up and food pantries really need all the produce they can get. Let’s give them a good boost this Saturday. By the way, even before tomorrow’s harvest, we have hit a new record of produce donated this year, beating the 2021 record harvest of 4,458 pounds!

4,576 pounds at end of October and still harvesting!

Calling All Recipes

On a different note, check out the new recipes that have been posted recently on the Our Favorite Recipes page (submenu item under the About Us menu item). I know there are a lot of secret chefs in our midst, so give it up and share! With such a wonderful array of vegetables and fruits in our garden, the possibilities are endless. All you need to do is send either a typed recipe file plus an accompanying photo or a link to a recipe you like and think others might like to try also. Send it to Monty or Anne, and we will add it to the Simple Gifts Garden collection, (giving credit to your submission, of course!).
