New Garden Hours: 9 AM – 12 Noon
Get an extra hour of shuteye this month! The garden will now open at 9 AM on Saturdays. With just four Saturdays left in the season, please be sure to come to the garden for your final opportunities for “dirt therapy.” We are still harvesting peppers (sweet ones and hot ones), carrots (check out that bunch Anne is holding!), lettuce, spinach, arugula, pak choi, possibly turnips, and our famous raspberries. This Saturday, in addition to harvesting, we will be carefully placing pine straw around the three rows of new strawberry plants to prepare them for winter. We will also water various new, special plants recently added to the outside of the garden, including new fig trees, longleaf pine, winterberry, and beautyberry.
4,045 Pounds

That’s how much produce we have raised and donated to local food pantries so far this year! We did 1,084 pounds last year, when we were just building the new garden, and now we have quadrupled that with our fully-expanded garden. This is approaching our 15 year record harvest of 4,458 pounds and still closing in on that !
Don’t Forget to Go to the Art & Gift Market after Gardening

This fundraiser supports Apex UMC missions, including Simple Gifts Community Garden. It runs 9 AM-3 PM, so after a morning harvest, head over to Apex UMC to check out the wide variety of handcrafted items from local craft vendors and artisans. Word has it that Grill Master Kiper might be cooking up some tasty lunch options there, too!
