Yesterday Bruce and Penny Oland from the Society of St. Andrew visited Simple Gifts Garden. Bruce is Triangle Area Gleaning Coordinator for St. Andrew. He is also a generous man! St. Andrew and Simple Gifts Garden both support the WWCM Food Bank, so Bruce gave us one hundred feet of potato netting that St. Andrew uses to bag the sweet potatoes that volunteers glean from farmers’ fields. Our garden hopes to use this netting to create “hammocks” for our watermelons, cantaloupes and other fruits and vegetables to prevent rot and stop critters from snacking on them before we can harvest them. Many thanks to Bruce, Penny and St. Andrew for your support! (To learn more about the Society of St. Andrew, go to www.endhunger.org.)
