Saturday March 7th*

Hello garden friends!  I know I often talk about the weather, but my gracious!  Have you ever seen such crazy weather as the last couple of days?  Beautiful spring day yesterday and a wintry mix predicted for tonight.  Well, regardless of what this moment looks like, Saturday is predicted to be beautiful!  Because it’s going to be pretty cold Friday night, we’ll wait til 9am Saturday to get started.  I do hope you will be able to drop by for a few minutes to say hello, even if you don’t have time to work.  I’ve missed you all!

For this week, if the soil is warm enough and not soggy wet, we’ll work on getting some early spring crops planted like peas, spinach, lettuce, beets and radishes.  We’ve got some beds we can work on to prep for later planting, and for anyone that feels like doing some weight training, there’s compost to turn!  I’ll be looking for a volunteer to pick up at Panera and Lowes’ Foods, so please let me know if you’re willing!  We will close down by noon at the latest Saturday.

If you’re on facebook, you might have already seen the article Anne posted about the scientific reason for the therapeutic value of playing in the dirt.  If you’re not a facebook’er, you can read the article at http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/antidepressant-microbes-soil.htm.  It’s very fascinating to me.  I’ve often mentioned how digging in the dirt is good therapy for me, and now I understand the reason for that feeling!

Hope to see you Saturday!  And bring a friend.  Or two.  Everyone is welcome at the garden!
