Last chance for lettuce :-)

Hello, gardeners,

The sweet potatoes are all gone and the garden has no more workdays in 2014, but we do have lettuce! Down in bed 8A (lower lefthand corner of numbered beds) you will find some beautiful arugula and other lettuces.

We normally only harvest on official garden workdays (with the exception of herbs and flowers), but the lettuce needs to be picked before the frost kills it.

Please come down and pick lettuce for your Thanksgiving meal. Come on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, at your convenience. Please bring a pair of scissors to clip the lettuce leaves. and leave the base and roots to add nutrients to the soil. Bring a bag for the lettuce that you cut.

The temperature on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights will be dipping to freezing and below, so we plan to remove the remaining lettuce from the bed on Wednesday and take it to Raleigh Rescue Mission to help their food needs for the holiday.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! (And please close the gate when you leave.)

Fred

P.S. I have brought down some large irises that I thinned from my yard. They are in a bucket at the top gate. Please take some, if there are any left.

Fred
