Hi, gardeners,
It is a beautiful day, and the garden will be lovely tonight (Tues). Bill Pate is garden leader on our last Tuesday workday of 2014. Please come out and join Bill and the rest of us! There is lots to harvest and we will need to do some watering since it hasn’t rained in over a week. Also, garlic lovers: we are planting a new garlic bed tonight.
Tomorrow night at 6pm the garden is holding its annual Potluck Supper. Please join us in Apex UMC’s red brick building (Fellowship Hall #2) on Hughes Street, right near the intersection of Hughes and Chatham Streets near downtown Apex. You can park on the street or in the parking lot right behind the red brick building. Everyone is encouraged to bring a meal, a side, bread, or dessert. We will provide water and lemonade for our beverages.
Miss Jeanne Hack, our garden grande dame and sponsor, will be at the dinner. And we will be joined by Melissa Dowland, educator and butterfly expert at the NC Museum of Natural Science. Melissa will share dinner with us and say a few words on butterflies and other pollinators. She wrote a terrific article on the endangered monarch butterfly in a September N&O —
Melissa’s 9-14-14 N&O article on Monarch Butterflies: — http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/09/14/4140800_making-sure-monarchs-return.html?rh=1
And she has shared a very handy article with us on how to create a butterfly garden in your school or yard. (See “Butterfly Gardens” below.)
Dinner begins at 6pm. We will be there a few minutes early in case you’d like to warm up a dish or help put things out for our garden members and guests. Come join us for some delicious food and great fellowship with old and new friends at the garden.
Fred & Anne
