Good morning, garden friends. Hope you are all doing well! Earlier this week, the forecast said Saturday was going to be 70 degrees and sunny and just now, I’m reading the WRAL forecast and it says “We should have a miserable day with wind and rain playing a prominent role in the forecast.” That doesn’t sound like much fun, does it? But we are an Easter people who live with hope, so let’s hope that tomorrow’s weather turns out better than expected and we have an opportunity to be at the garden in the morning! Unless it is raining steadily, we will give our best effort to having a workday starting at 8 a.m.
In spite of winter’s last gasp this week, we are beginning to start our summer crops now. We may put in a bed of tomatoes tomorrow, some summer squash and a bed of Derby green beans. Do you remember those wonderful, tender beans from last year that everyone loved? Oh my goodness, how delicious! And we will have harvest this week with some lovely bok choy ready for your stir fry, and potentially makings for a salad with arugula and spinach for sure, and possibly some leaf lettuce and small radishes to go with it.
Thanks so much to those folks (you know who you are) who covered and uncovered strawberries this week to protect them from the potential freezing temperatures. We appreciate it now and will appreciate it even more when the berries start to ripen.
If you are traveling this Easter weekend, safe journeys to you. If you are in town, I hope to see you Saturday morning. And if you would like to celebrate Easter with our church, you are always welcome!
With hope for peace for us all,
Sandra
