Can you help?

Good morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a good weekend!  While I wasn’t able to stay at the garden long, it was a beautiful day to be there.  Special thanks to everyone that showed up early (especially those with trucks) to help load the soil, manure and mulch that our good neighbors, Wal-Mart, graciously donated to us.

I spent a lot of time this weekend “potting up” tomato seedlings.  A few years ago, the garden purchased soil block makers and that’s what I use (mostly) to grow plants.  You can watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-VMneNrm_4) for more information.  I start with the mini 3/4″ blocks to germinate the little bitty seeds, then “pot up” to the 2″ block.  And that’s where I am now.

I don’t have a fancy set-up at home.  I only use plain old fluorescent shop lights that plug into an outlet to put over the plants, raising them up as the plants grow.  While a grow light would work better, this set-up seems to perform reasonably well.

I find myself with more flats than I have room for this year (because I haven’t yet even started the peppers!), and I was wondering if any of you might have a plug-in shop light and would be willing to tend to a flat or two of plants until it’s time to put them in the ground.  It’s really not difficult, especially if you can put the light fixture on a timer.  It would just require regular watering and raising the light as needed.

If you’re interested and would like more information, email me directly and I’ll be glad to answer any questions.  Thanks for the consideration!

Sandra
