Hello garden friends,
It doesn’t seem like gardening weather, does it? Once we start to get frosts and start thinking of turkey day I know I don’t normally think so much about gardening. This is one of those wonderful times where coming out to the garden is a wonderful win-win for us all though. The weather is so beautiful you can hardly stand it. The trees are going to glory, the geese come honking in to splash down in the pond, the air is so crisp you can dig Bermuda or turn compost and feel grateful for being warm instead of melting into a puddle of sweat. AND!! And the other good news is a little work right now will pay big dividends in the spring. We’re in the process of removing all the summer crops, weeding everything and mulching the beds heavily with leaves. If we can get all of our beds put to bed nicely for the winter not only will the leaves add organic matter to the beds as they break down, but they will prevent weeds from taking nutrients out of the soil. And we’ll have lovely beds ready to plant in the spring!
We only have a few more Saturdays until we break for the winter and I know schedules are busy, but if you can come out even for an hour or two it will make a big difference! Plus we’ll miss you if you don’t!
Hope to see you soon,
Anne
