A few things…

Hello garden friends,

We have an invitation and a few reminders to bring you today.

First – four great reasons to come out to the garden soon!

1. Garden honey – we still have some jars of honey for any families who have not already gotten theirs.

2. Great produce – this is that fun time when we still have lots of summer produce coming in – beans, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, okra, squash etc. and we’re transitioning beds to fall crops as well – recently we’ve put in broccoli, cabbage, kale, collards, radishes and carrots. Nothing is more satisfying than pulling out old plants, rebuilding a bed with good rich compost, planting it and watering it in. And we’ve made such great headway on our ant problem that you probably won’t even have to worry about those fierce wee beasties! (If you do see a mound, tell a garden leader and we’ll get after them.)

3. Great friends – make new friends and keep the old! It’s great fun to see folks we haven’t seen in a while and catch up.

4. Yellow day lilies – we have four large tubs of day lilies that you are all welcome to take home and plant. They were dug Thursday and can be further divided from the large clumps you will find them in. They grow about 3 ft. tall, are lemon yellow, need full sun and bloom in mid-July. You will find them under the shade of the trees at the top of the garden. Please help yourself and please have someone water the tubs on Saturday if they are not all taken.

Also a few reminders: we have two main rules at the garden – one at the request of our benefactor, Miss Jeanne and the second is a core principle of how we interact as community.

1. Please do not go near the pond! – This is Miss Jeanne’s only request. On occasion our irrigation experts need to check on the pump and intake valves, but they are the only exception. Also please do not go near the honeybee hives without a trained garden leader.

2. Harvest on group workdays only – please remember that you are welcome to come to the garden during any daylight hours to water, weed, enjoy the picnic tables or benches and take herbs or flowers. We only harvest garden produce on days when we all work together. This allows us to share responsibly and keep in mind that we have different needs and we should always take only what we can use and make sure we use whatever we take.

Please know that whether we have seen you recently or not, you are part of our garden family and we would love to see you whenever you can come by. No guilt in the garden!

Take care,

Anne & Fred
