Hi Garden Folk.

Here’s an email I sent to the garden list yesterday; hope you can join us for a ‘mater sandwich Tuesday evening! Please either email me or comment back on this post if you can make it and how many!

Hi everyone. The tomatoes have been prolific this year, which is such a welcome change from last year when we struggled to even have enough for the daily workers. What a blessing!

Weather permitting, I would like to invite you to come to the garden at 6:30 Tuesday for a simple supper of tomato sandwiches. If you’re a child of the South, like I am, you know that ripe, juicy tomatoes on some soft bread with Duke’s mayo, a little salt and pepper, is the definition of pure deliciousness in the summertime. I’ll bring the bread, mayo, Miracle Whip for those of you that prefer it (sigh), salt and pepper. And I’ve got some bread and butter pickles from some cucumbers picked yesterday that I hope will be good — never made these before.

I hope you’ll be able to come join in the fun! Tuesday is a regular workday, so if you’re able, feel free to come at 5 to help with the day’s harvest and other work. But if you can’t make it til 6:30, please come on out then. Even if your family doesn’t usually join you at the garden, they are certainly welcome! Or if you have neighbors that might be interested in potentially joining the garden, what better opportunity to invite them to drop by? I just need a rough head-count to make sure I’ve got enough bread, plates and napkins. And if you don’t like tomato sandwiches, you are still welcome to come join us–bring your own picnic!

I’ll have some water to drink; if you want something different, please bring your own. Also bring a yard chair or blanket to sit on. And I strongly suggest insect repellent.

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’ll send a note to those that have responded to me and will let you know that it’s cancelled; we’ll try again another night.

Again, please let me know if you can make it and how many will be coming from your family.
