Hello garden people. Since tomorrow is Independence Day, there will be no Thursday evening workday. However, if it’s not raining in the morning, I’m going to be there from about 9-10 to harvest whatever won’t hold on the vine until Saturday. If you’re around in the morning and would like to come out to help, please do!
On Saturday, we will have our normal workday starting at 8 and closing pretty promptly at 11. We’ve got lots and lots and lots of weeds that need to be pulled; they grow really well in all the rain we’ve been having! I’ve not been at the garden in the last week, but I think harvest right now includes some delicious green beans, cucumbers, squash, onions and maybe the tomatoes are starting to come in. Plus I’ve got garlic drying on my porch at home that I’ll bring, along with part of a bucket of potatoes.
Speaking of garlic, a lot of folks think you have to cure it before you use it. If you want to store it for the long-haul, you should cure it, which is basically just letting it dry in a sheltered spot out of the rain and sun where there’s good air circulation. But you can certainly eat it fresh; it has a really nice bite to it. For me, just about everything tastes better with garlic in it; I’m really blessed to have married someone who’s equally fond of garlic! If you’d like to read more about curing garlic, here’s a good web site:

Hope to see you either Thursday or Saturday! Happy Independence Day!
