With thanks to Tonya, Kim and Noah for a last minute substitution as leaders tomorrow!

Even though it’s a holiday weekend and lots of folks are away, the garden will be open around 8 in the morning for those in town that would like some good old dirt therapy! There are bugs to pluck, weeds to pull, feather meal to spread and strawberries to eat! Yummm, strawberries….. So if you’re around, come join the fun!

For this week’s trivia, let’s talk about bugs. The Colorado potato beetle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_potato_beetle) is what’s giving us fits right now. It started on our potatoes and has made the leap to the tomatoes and a few adults have been seen on the eggplant. We do spray with neem oil, which is certified as safe for organic gardens. The potatoes were sprayed a couple of weeks ago, and the tomatoes last night. It’s done a pretty decent job of reducing the population on the potatoes, but like most organic solutions (or even conventional pesticides), it’s not 100% effective, so continuing to monitor and manually pluck the bugs off into soapy water is necessary.

Hope y’all have a great weekend!
